Where can I donate old books?

Anonymous
We've got 5-6 boxes of books we no longer want. Any ideas as to where we could drop them off for donation? We live in Alexandria, but I'm in NW DC a lot so could drop there also. Thanks.

This place is great! And a very worthy cause...

The women's shelter, House of Ruth, would be a good place.

Got old towels and sheets--the DC animal shelter on New York Avenue needs those.

The Arc of Montgomery has many area thrift stores. The proceeds go to
programs for disabled children and adults in the community. We donate to the one in Wheaton on University Blvd.

Our preschool is having a book sale this weekend. If you want to donate them I can post the phone number to the school. Someone would be happy to pick them up. All book sales go directly to the school (coop).

You can also drop them off at most libraries, who sell them at book sales and use the money for new books and programs that benefit the community.

If some of the books are kids books you could give a few to your peditrician for the waiting room.

Ha. I was coming in here to post just that. Nice place. Last time I went was awhile ago but it desperately needed Children's and Sci Fi/Fantasy contributions.

Just sayin.
