Anyone know of a place in NW or, preferably, upper NWDC, where they do gel manicures? I got one for the first time while out of town and didn't realize that you can't remove the polish the old fashioned way. Any suggestions where I can go to get it done?
BTW, I really like it because it has held up beautifully for two weeks despite excessive hand washing and small children. Also, it dries immediately so you don't have to hang around the salon waiting to dry. The down side seems to be that it's a pain to remove and not necessarily very healthy for your nails. |

| There is a nail place close to Tenley Circle called Envy Nails that does it. It is on a side street just off of Wisconsin across from St. Ann's Church. |
| If you keep getting the gel manicures, your nails will be ripped to shreds after about six weeks. Then you'll have to grow them out for about six months. |
I believe the OP is asking about products like Shellac and OPI Axxium. I thought that damage was only true for gel nails, not these products, which just provide chip-proof color. Can anyone clarify? |
Nope, sorry to say, but she's right. The OPI Axxium (not sure about shellac) will destroy your nails after awhile. The process of removing it is very harsh and damaging. I do it every so often, but only if I'm going to be traveling or on vacation or something. Otherwise, I opt for the more temporary normal manicure in an effort to keep my nails healthy. |
| you can soak your nails in acetone remover to remove the nails at home. i got the gel polish for several months in a row and it does damage and thin your nails. it's not as painful if you get the fake gel nails, but still somewhat painful. i would get the gel polish again, but only for a special occassion. |
