Did Anyone Deal with Extreme Pelvic Separation During PG?

Anonymous
LO is about to turn 4 mo and I am still in daily pain from pelvic separation that started at 24 weeks PG. I have been seeing a chiro since 4w PP and physical therapy for the last 5 weeks, but all of my medical team (chiro, PT, OB, PCP) admit that they have never dealt with this before. I am reday to move toward professionals who have experience specifically with this. Any recomendations are welcome (for both mainstream and alternative care), specifically in NoVa.

OP if you aren't already seeing a women's health PT I would recommend doing so ASAP. I'm sorry I don't have a name to give you but if you go to www.apta.org you can look up for a women's health specialist close to you. Good luck.

Rene Lawson, a physical therapist specializing in pelvic floor disorders. 202/466-9719, 2021 K Street, N.W., 2d Fl. If she can't serve you, hopefully she can refer you to the right person.

This info may help - http://www.plus-size-pregnancy.org/pubicpain.htm . If you scroll down to just past the half-way mark, you'll see this:

"If the pain continues severely postpartum, traditional medical treatment involves several options. Injecting a steroid directly into the joint is one option sometimes recommended. Another option is surgery. Surgeons will sometimes take some bone from the hip area and make a plate to be screwed in over the pubic symphysis to try and stabilize the pelvis more. This is a very big surgery, it reportedly can take several months to recover from, and the success rate is apparently not very good (see Lia's story, below). Or they can try to create scar tissue over the area in hopes that it will tighten up the gap or act as a kind of 'plate' over the area too. For more information on these options, contact the British SPD support group, www.spd.-uk.org."

I think you should try a different chiropractor - how about Dr Noya in Tenleytown? He's well-known for his skill with treating pregnancy issues.

I'm sorry you have this pain and I hope you find relief!

I go to Dr. Camille D'Amato in Falls church for chiro/PT treatment especially for Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction (SPD). My pelvis was pretty separated and is now almost back to normal (not sure if it ever will go back to before pg). but, I swear by Dr. D'Amato and I was the biggest skeptic on chiro you can imagine. I was just so damn desperate I was willing to try anything. It did take a while to get back to normal 6-12 months. I am on maintenance now and feel good.
