Infertility Support and Discussion
I've been doing acupuncture on and off for 2 years now to no avail. During my 2 failed IVFs, I've been doing acupuncture before transfer, on the day of transfer and one day after. Since it doesn't seem like acupuncture is working for me and I don't want to spend more money on it while going through my 3rd IVF cycle, are there many people out of there who succeeded with IVF without acupuncture treatments?
Me! IVF success at 40 on the first try. Didn't do accupuncture; didn't stop drinking (a moderate amount of wine) until after I got pregnant (and even then had a glass every once in a while); didn't stop drinking a cup of caffeinated coffee every day; kept up regular exercise.
Me too, and also had IVF success the first time (at 37). I didn't really consider acupuncture for IVF. Read a little bit about it on the Pulling Down the Moon brochures that were outside of the SG offices and might have tried it if we weren't successful.
First time the charm for us. No acupuncture. 33 at the time.
Fourth IVF was the charm with me (twins). Tried accupuncture before going the IVF route and also with my 3rd IVF (no luck). Fourth attempt I swiched clinics and to be honest didn't think it would work since it seemed everything was going wrong (cysts, break through bleeding, etc.) BUT that was the one that worked. Also ended up with a surprise pregnancy 10 months PP. Looking back I wish I skipped the accupuncture -- I never found it as relaxing as other people.
I did acupuncture, too- and do not think it is helpful. I only got BFN's. I go in for my 4th retrieval tomorrow! Wish me luck please!
No acupuncture and had DD on 2 IVF attempt.
Tried acupuncture prior to moving on to NCIVF but didn't continue through my cycle because I just didn't have time. Anyway we got lucky with our first round, but sadly m/c at 9 weeks. Trying to get up the strength to try again, my emotions are all over the place so maybe acupuncture would help get me back on track.
never did, not a believer. Success on 2nd IVF at age 39

for me: (to conceive 2 children)
IVF 1: acupuncture: positive IVF 2: acupuncture:: negative IVF 3: no acupuncture: positive So for me, it didn't mean the difference between a positive and negative cycle. |
Me too. Age 39 first IVF. Before that - one ectopic ruptured, three miscarraiges, three failed IUIs. Do whatever helps you cope. Hang in there!
Maybe it's important to ask who actually carried a baby to term doing ivf without acupuncture b/c I've heard it can help stave off miscarriage. I am doing acupuncture with ivf. I do not find it relaxing at all, but figure I'm not stopping now. I've been doing it for 9 months. Though I will say, I don't think it's like a make or break deal. I think it may just be a potentially helpful side effect.

The truth is that herbal medicine is the dominant modality for fertility issues in Chinese Medicine. Doesn't suprise me that acupuncture works or doesn't work.
