Why do you feel only trained teachers can teach? |
PP here- I probably should have phrased it differently. I meant it more as I'm not a natural teacher myself- I'm just not that good at it. Thus I'd be doing my kids a disservice by trying to teach them at home. Some people are better at it obviously. I do find it a bit odd though that one needs a degree to teach in a classroom, but anyone can homeschool. |
I get your point. However, you are not being paid to homeschool. |
| I was a teacher. You learn things about classroom management, etc. that you don't need in homeschooling. For the record, I could control a classroom and make them work, my owns kids.............not so much. |
| pp. You also learn a lot of different teaching methods and principles of learning. And, if you are teaching high school, you really do need to know the subject. |
Teaching just one child is pretty easy. The hard part in teaching is handling a whole classroom, meeting different children's needs at the same time. |
On average, up until what grade does homeschooling occur? I could see mastering everything you need to teach through elementary school, but how do you become an expert in ALL of the high school subjects? Most high school teachers specialize in one subject. And what do you do about a foreign language? |
There are ready-made resources, ie CBT training |
I don't think many people homeschool during the high school years. |
| I've known both. Some do high school and some don't. I think Tebow did high school. |

The real reason they hate common core because it will make your kids gay!
Seriously, you can't make this shit up! http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/florida-lawmaker-common-core-turn-kids-gay |
Can you tell me why there should be anything about homosexuality integrated into the curriculum, other than during a unit on sexual education, which parents can opt out of? |
Because heterosexuality is integrated into the curriculum. In any case, THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE COMMON CORE STANDARDS. |
It does have to do with how they are implemented. Heterosexuality should not be integrated into the curriculum either. |
I agree. We need to take Romeo and Juliet out of the curriculum -- Hamlet, too. |
