Children's Medical Associates of Northern Virginia/Murphy & Staats

Anonymous
Hi,

I'm 29 weeks pregnant, and am currently debating which pediatrics practice to go with, and I was wondering if anyone could provide any feedback/reviews on both the doctors from Children's Medical Associates of Northern Virginia in Fairfax, as well as Murphy & Staats in Burke. CMA takes my insurance (meaning minimal $10 copays if even), but Murphy & Staats is just a participant in my insurance (meaning my copay is 20% of whatever my bill is). I also know that CMA has a group of about 9 doctors while M&S is only 2 doctors.

Any comments would be appreciated!

Thanks.

Dr. Murphy is a very old fashion pediatrician. Very conservative. He can keep you waiting for HOURS! Dr. Staats is very easy to work with. She listens, is open and runs on time. The office staff is pleasant. They seems to be available every day of the year. The only drawback is this can lead to an extreme wait.

I just had a baby and also chose CMA. So far, I've been very impressed. The office staff is great and when I called with a concern on Memorial Day weekend a doctor called me back within 10 minutes.

Loved CMA--we've lived in 2 different states since we left DC and haven't found another practice that's so user-friendly. We saw Dr. Atiyeh for all of our well visits, but all the docs and NPs there are wonderful. At least one of the NPs is also a lactation consultant, and we were able to rent a hospital grade breast pump from them when we needed it the first couple of weeks.

We were mostly in Alexandria, but when my son was a newborn (Labor Day weekend) and we had to go in for follow-ups to check his jaundice, we were in Fairfax. The waiting room there is a little small, but they do try to get you into the exam rooms quickly.
If you do a search, you'll find lots of favorable reviews on this site.

I LOVE Murphy and Staats, and not just because they are 1 block walking distance from my house. Murphy has a very direct and no-nonsense demeanor but is very reassuring and provides answers that can be understood and makes sure you are comfortable. Feel kind of rushed when seeing him, but overall good. Staats is incredible with my son, also very knowledgeable and direct, but "softer" if you will. Very gentle and patient with the kiddo. Can always get in to see them when you need to, though we have had some waits a few times - but I usually try to go Friday mornings, which aren't too bad. Also, they have Saturday hours.
Highly recommend them.
Also- Dr Staats was ok with our desire to delay the MMR shot until age two (I just wanted to separate the shots at the 15 month appointment and she suggested the age two thing for MMR). Anyway, I appreciated her willingness to separate shots, since son always has a reaction to shots.
