I wish I liked the taste of plain yogurt more than I do

It really peeves me that flavored yogurt has, like, 25 grams of sugar for one little cup. So that's a non-starter, as is the aspartame chemistry experiment sugar-free type.

Please tell me I'm not alone?

Me too. I bought some vanilla yogurt (big container) at Safeway and when I got it home I noticed the second ingredient was high fructose corn syrup. When I buy plain yogurt I really, really have to add agave or honey to it. Just can't get into the really sour taste w/o some kind of sweetener.

I don't like it plain, but I usually add a small amount of honey, about a cup of berries and 1/8 cup almonds to a serving. That makes it good, for sure! Eat the Fage 0% or 2% greek style and you'll get a huge protein boost, too!

How about adding granola to it? Very yummy!

I agree completely. But, I like it much better with honey - also the 2% fage seems not as sour as nonfat fage, although I know it's much more fattening ...

Try Seven Stars Farms yogurt. It's very creamy and not as sour as some yogurts. It's good mixed with cut up bananas and/or cranberries and/or slivered almonds.

I am not usually a yogurt fan but have been really surprised to find that I like Greek yogurt - it doesn't have such a strong "yogurt-y" taste and it's a more pleasant consistency. I've been eating plain Fage yogurt with honey and it's really delicious!

Try Skyr. It is like yogurt but much milder.

I can only eat plain yogurt with a little honey, and some sort of juicy fruit, like strawberries or cantalope. Otherwise it's too sour for me.

Try Chobani - tons better than other plain yogurt I've had.

I want to like any yougurt sooo bad! I just cannot stand the after taste. I have never liked it even as a kid but want to...weird I know.

Chobani looks amazing but I bought one and could not eat it.

I am jealous of all you yogurt lovers!

I like the non-fat Fage (doesn't have non-yogurt ingredients that some non-fat yogurts have) or Voskos mixed with granola and either dried fruit or fresh berries. The granola and fruit add enough sweetness. Maybe start with a swirl of honey and some fresh berries and work your way toward completely plain.

Agree that plain Greek yogurt is so much better. But I do add honey to it.

I like just a little maple syrup in my plain yogurt. Adds both flavor and sweetness. While sweetening plain yogurt yourself obviously still adds sugar, I think you will find that you need much, much less sugar than what commercial flavored yogurt uses.

We also really like the Stonyfield Farms plain cream-top yogurt and the Trader Joe's whole milk green yogurt. Even my kids adore those kinds. We don't eat any flavored yogurts and certainly not the crap that passes for "yogurt" in the grocery stores today. Really if you're at Safeway or something there is like one brand of yogurt that is actually yogurt.

I think the secret is that you have to buy the full-fat version. Any plain yogurt that is reduced fat is going to be too sour.
