| We recently visited friends in this neighborhood, and were wondering what folks thought of it. Is it generally a liberal neighborhood? Conservative? How are the schools? It looks like a wonderful community, and I'd love some opinions on it, as we're considering neighborhoods. TIA! |
| An old boyfriend's parents lived right on the lake and it was so relaxing there. They had a pontoon boat and it was fun jumping off it and swimming. But that's not answering your question. The answer is they were Jewish liberals. I'd love to live there, but it would need to be right on the lake... it's so pretty. |

OP here...ha! We are Jewish liberals too! That is so awesome! Is there a "big" Jewish community there? (and by "big" I mean "I am more MOCO focused and admittedly don't know much about NOVA..."
Thanks!!! |

I've known several families who lived there over the years and they were Asian, Jewish, and Protestant liberals :0)
I love Lake Barcroft - not sure what the public school situation is like but it's a charming little oasis. Whenever I'm in the neighborhood I feel a million miles away from DC. |
| it votes mostly conservative republican, and Attorney General Cuccinelli receives a lot of support from Lake Barcroft as far as I know. but I'd hope politics is pretty far down on your list on why you would pick a neighborhood. |
| 21:57 here. Don't let 23:02 turn you off to it. It's really enchanting there and I would consider it if it was in my realm of possibility. It's enchanting to live on a lake anyway, IMO. That overrides any other consideration for me... the enjoyment of the lake year round. |
| Interesting...lived in this area my whole life and never actually realized there was real honest to goodness lake located in that neighborhood - just thought is was the name a developer slapped on after building the houses. |

The area around the lake itself is really nice- nice neighborhood.
The big drawback is that the schools are not good- it is in the middle of the Bailey's Crossroads/Seven Corners area, with a lot of poverty. Also, it is kind of out of the way (though not so much as other areas like Loudon, considering how expensive things have gotten over the past ~11 years in the DC area). Another point- the area is most definitely not walkable, and I'm no fan of driving in Seven Corners with all the lane changes and what not. |
|
Also (I'm the 23:35 poster)- I grew up in the DC area, though I didn't grow up in Barcroft itself--- but just wanted to add, I've never heard of Barcroft being associated with any specific political leaning.
(Not like McLean/Great Falls are considered more Republican-leaning and Arlington/Potomac considered more Democratic-leaning... though there are all types everywhere.) |
Senator Jim Webb lives in Lake Barcroft, but he's not a traditional liberal.

| Not disparaging VA in any way (I grew up there), but if you're moving from MOCO to NOVA, you will see a huge drop off in the Jewish population! Sorry! |
