how many milligrams do you take and in what form (vegan algae capsules, fish oil capsules, other kinds of supplements)?
I can't find any good advice on this. thanks. |
I take the Target version of the One-a-Day prenatal vitamins, which includes a fish oil capsule in addition to the regular prenatal vitamin. The fish oil capsule contains 440 mg of Omega-3s (240 mg of EPA, 200 mg of DHA). My last pregnancy I took Prenate DHA, a prescription vitamin, which contained 300 mg of DHA. So I think that's probably the range that you're shooting for. I had trouble figuring out what I was supposed to be doing, which is why I have stuck with prenatal vitamins that contain DHA rather than trying to get a general supplement. I also eat a tablespoon or two of flaxseed meal several times a week (sprinkled onto yogurt or in cereal). |
I take NeevoDHA.. love them..and they are plant based DHA....a tad expensive.. but worth it. |
Nordic Naturals, either 500 or 1000 a day depending on if i take 1 or 2 pills |
I took Spectrum fish oil, about a gram a day (sometimes 2 if I took another 2 pills at night). I was already taking that for inflammation and just kept on. The pills now have vitamin D in them, too, which is great. |
I take 2 capsules of spectrum vegetarian DHA. Made from algae and no disgusting aftertaste! Definitely more expensive, but really the only way I can tolerate them. (They are smaller than other fish oil tablets, which is why I take two.) |
Prenate Essential -- think they have 300 mg/day. They're expensive, but they taste great and go down so easily. |
I take this one Duet DHA http://www.duetdha.com/
It's two pills per pack and I haven't had any issues with nausea and/or constipation. I highly recommend this vitamin. |
OP here -- thanks, everyone! |
