Looks like he is accomplished, and from the photo, relatively young, too. Maybe that means he'll stay for awhile! From Stamford, CT schools. |
Just googled him. he sounds a lot like Weast. More disturbing though is that the Board approved him unanimously. That cannot be good. |
what makes you feel like he sounds like Weast? don't disagree--just curious. |
This process was so secret, I fear an agenda such as removing any possibility of differentiation. This school board owns this selection. How this hire turns out will drive my vote next election. |

Crap. More of the same, or worse. |
Some comments from the local CT paper...uhoh...
Finally.......the biggest threat to stamford gone.....6 long years of a nightmare finally comes to an end. Ding Dongg the Witch is Dead the people of Stamford can come out now. He was disingenuous and self-serving the whole time here. Thanks M/C for saving Stamford a big severance check! Great, now can we have flexible grouping for middle school back? And more than a token two groups! Stamford gets lucky, Starr goes. http://www.stamfordadvocate.com/news/articleComments/Starr-poised-to-leave-as-Stamford-superintendent-1351929.php If you would like to read more... |
PP, these comments are colorful but I would never go by the anonymous comments on a news article as truth. Have you ever read the comments on WP articles? Yuck! |
For those of us who are new to MCPS, what was the problem with Weast? |
Agree with PP that anonymous comments are not a complete picture but after reading the rest of them..it is interesting that NONE are at all positive.. |
Thanks for the link. I'm already discouraged by the fact that he admires the MCPS model and said that Stamford should strive to emulate it. I noticed that his BOE gave him at rating of "needs improvement" in the commmunicating with parents, community and the BOE, itself. How many of us are going to attend the community meetings to ask him questions about his vision for the future of MCPS? |
I hate feeling so helpless/voiceless in this vast bureaucracy. God, I hate that.
Local control is a much better model. |
People didn't like the fact that he put more money toward programs for schools with students who had performed poorly on tests -- not surprisingly these schools served poorer neighborhoods with many students who are the children of recent immigrants. People will talk about spending money needlessly on Prometheus Boards (and I agree that the boards were not needed) and money spent for Weast and others to travel to various conferences (which I also agree seemed excessive), but in the end the real issue is that people want more money, programs, materials, etc. for their child's school and that money was directed to help children with greater needs. |
You would all complain if they picked Annie Sullivan
All you want is money for your schools. Look how much he has done for special needs kids, look at the areas he has worked, What have you done to help your school or others not in yoru area? |
He was just preliminarily approved for the position. You could go to the up coming town meeting to voice any concerns or support. |
