Costco Recommendations

Anonymous
I just got a costco membership for the first time because we bought a swingset there, but of course I'm planning to use it now for lots of other things. Are there any food products that are specific to costco that you would recommend? If products vary by location, i will mainly be shopping at the one on route 1 in beltsville. Thanks!

We use the Kirkland (Costco brand) detergent that is fragrance free and HE compatible, and white trash bags. I would not recommend the cheese with the execption of the Parmesan Cheese or Mozzarella balls, it is pretty tasteless like the processed kind at the grocery store.

Toilet paper
Paper Towels
Avocados
Milk (much cheaper but organic milk is cheaper at Giant)
K-cups for coffee
Bread (Freeze it for later use since it comes in 2 loaf bags)

The store-made shrimp salad & chicken salad. Amazing!
Rotisserie Chicken
Kirkland brand pulled pork BBQ
Store-made chicken pot pie
Store-made cakes, cupcakes, and tyhe cookies. Oh lord, those cookies...
"Rosey goat" goat cheese dusted with rosemary.
Ciabatta rolls
Panko crusted frozen Tilapia fillets
Kirkland brand coffee beans (in the green bag)
...can you tell I shop there a LOT?

The meat is often very good value.
I also think they sometimes have good cheeses, particularly foreign ones.
Hummus is great.

we get pretty much all of our meat there - chicken breasts, fish filets, ground beef. keep it frozen, thaw when needed.

the toilet paper and paper towels are great, and they never go bad.

some of the ready made foods and frozen ready made foods are good too. the rotisserie chicken is the cheapest you can find and tastes good.

also, in the little eatery counter, the pizza is a great deal and yummy. so is the chicken bake, berry smoothie, ice cream... pretty much everything except the salad. and very cheap.

you can also sometimes find really good deals on clothing. baby/kids' clothes... men's dress shirts... designer jeans even. i've gotten $100+ jeans for $30 there.
books are also a great price. cds and dvds are not so much.

OP here, thank you for all the recs! If there are other recommendations you have specifically on the prepared foods, that would be awesome. I've been very disappointed by the frozen prepared meals at trader joes but have heard good things about the prepared foods (frozen and fresh) at costco. Thanks again!

I agree, their meat and fish is good quality and if you get it hope, split it up right away into zip locs and freeze into small portions.

The produce, generally speaking, was really good. Avocados and fruit were all excellent. I bought cartons of anything I could make into babyfood when my DS was ~6 mo old to about ~18 mo, like sweet potatos, pears, champagne mangos, carrots.

I liked the Kirkland baby wipes, thought they were excellent.

I love their wipes too. Also:
Kirkland olive oil
Organic chicken breasts
Ground turkey
Rotisserie chicken
Whole grain pasta
Organic quinoa
Chicken broth
Fresh pizzas - awesome!!!
Cheese
Kids clothes
Coffee (we get Dunkin Donuts, but lots of other brands are good as well).

It's also my go-to place for kids' birthday presents, since my kids seem to be invited to a party almost every weekend - I just stock up and always have a stash to pull from.
