Is it worth to do FET with one embryo after two failed fresh IVFs?

If we didn't succeed with two fresh IVFs (first one transferred one emryo and second transferred three), what is the point of doing a FET with just one emryo? Don't want to go through this just to get another BFN.

I'm sorry you are going through this. What other option are you considering? You wouldn't just toss the frozen one right? Perhaps you need a little time off of the TTC effort?
For what its worth, I have two friends who have children conceived from just one FET transfer...no other children.
Hang in there.

OP here. I was thinking about donating this embryo to the research in case we decide it's not worth transferring just one. It will also be crushing if I go through monitoring, etc. and the embryo doesn't survive the thawing process. With my dumb luck, I always have to be ready for the worst.

Maybe you could do a natural cycle FET, so it isn't as costly or as difficult? I would definitely do it, understanding that it might not work. That said, I've heard of lots of similar success stories.

P.S. It can actually be difficult to donate to research at the moment.

what would bother me even more after i donate is the thought: what if the frozen embryo were to take?

I did FET with only one embryo after a failed fresh cycle (transferred two the first time, and only had one left). She's now 19 months old, and the love of my life.

I actually went into it thinking it wouldn't work, but I did Shared Risk so had to transfer the final frozen embryo before SG would let me go on to the next fresh cycle. I did acupuncture with that cycle both to try to improve the chances and to help me relax and not stress too much about it.

If I were you, I'd do it, maybe after taking off a couple of months depending on your age. Good luck with a tough decision!

PP, could you share the protocol you were for FET? And how soon did you do it?

I'm 16:13. My fresh cycle actually took but ended in m/c, so I started as soon as my HCG had gotten back down to 0 -- about 6 weeks after the miscarriage. It was 2 years ago, so I forget the protocol, but I remember taking BCP for a couple of weeks, then estrace and baby aspirin daily. They did monitoring bloodwork and U/S a couple of times. I started PIO shots around Day 14 (day of ovulation or egg retrieval in a normal cycle), did a "Day 5" blast transfer, and continued the PIO shots, estrace and aspirin after transfer until I got my BFP, and then continued them so more.... I think I got to stop the aspirin when we saw a heartbeat, can't remember when I stopped the estrace. Progesterone continued for a while but I convinced them to switch me to the vaginal inserts instead of the shots.

For acupuncture, I did acupuncture once or twice a week before transfer to help prepare my lining, and then a session immediately before and immediately after the trasnfer. None during the 2WW or pregnancy.

Good luck!

OP here again. I'll talk to my RE and find out what embryo quality we have. But I am sure he will be persuading me to try FET irregardless of quality. I might just do it next month, so I can get over it and move on with my life. Not feeling optimistic at this point.

Hi OP, I had two failed fresh cycles, then success on my third transfer, which was a FET. The whole situation is so stressful. I think your chances of having success eventually are good though if you're producing a good number of embryos of transfer quality. It can just be a numbers game. I would definitely take a chance on the totsicle. Hang in there!

Not a personal story, but my wonderful niece is the result of a single FET after the fresh cycle didn't take. And for some reason I feel like I've read somewhere that FET can actually have a higher rate of success?

Best of luck to you in achieving your family.

Thank you again so much to everyone who responded, for your words of encouragement and compassion. This is the only place I come for advice since none of my friends had to go through infertility struggles. I'll try to gather all my strength for another transfer.

Definitely do the FET! I had the same thought--why would a FET work if fresh cycles didn't. Guess what? The FET worked and I'm now in my third trimester. Don't discount it. I agree with the poster above that said sometimes it's just a numbers game. Plus, the FET is so much less stressful than a fresh cycle. Why put yourself through another fresh cycle if you don't have to?
