Has anybody ever experienced any sort of marks or bruises from miracle blanket? It seems my child either too senssitive to any pressure on his skin or we do something wrong. Let me tell you upfront - NOBODY in my family ever hurt the baby, so please do not question if the marks could be from another human. I just want to see whether swadling too tight could cause some bruise looking marks. I was analysing our swaddling - we usually swaddle him after bath, feed him and put to sleeop. He does not sleep too well and every 2 hours he may start making noise and pulling his legs up. He does not fully wake up but make noise. We usually (me and my husband) would pick him up, walk in the bedroom for a few minutes, son may continue twistihng in the blanket and we would ttry to find appropriate position where he would be comfiortable and fall asleep deeply. While doing that, the miracle blanket ussually would kind of pull up making creases and wrinkles inside. When we put him down in a few minutes we usually put him a little bit on his side, not flat on his back. When I unswaddled him in the morning, I found red marks on his arms and the leaves (the things that keep hands tucked) were all creased creating a bulk of material right where the marks were. Thios marks turned into bruise-looking things next day and a few days later diisappeared. Did anybody EVCER experienced any sort of marks from miracle blanket? What did you do? |
| No marks. And we swaddled tight. |
| I can't imagine how the Miracle Blanket would create bruises, unless it was somehow cutting off circulation. I could see that it might leave red marks from your son wiggling a lot, but bruises? How old is your child? I know when my son got to be about 3 months, he was just too big for the Miracle Blanket and we had to wean him from it. |

no, never have and we swaddled VERY VERY tight.
Not to alarm you, but if your child bruises easily (espceially from a miracle blanket), you need to see a doctor this could be a sign of a bigger problem. I'm a mom with a child with an immune disorder and I am very thankful we caught my son's problem very early in his life. It has made a WORLD of difference in his prognsis and treatment options. When we were diagnosing my son, the doctors repeadly asked over and over about bruising, as this is alarm bells for some blood & clotting problems. |

OP here
I am thinking that blood disorder and requested our doctor to check for that. Is that only blood work or so,mething else needed to check for brusing? PP right here - if circulation is cut, then it leaves red mark , but I still think it may turn into bruise. I had a rubber band on my wrist for 5-6 hours when sleeping and in the morning I had red circle which turned into bruise later. |
To check for many of these disorders, it is just bloodwork and possible bone marrow tests. However, having a child with medical problems, I had very little patience for my pediatrician, they just are not specialized enough and do order the correct tests and do not know how to interpret results. When sick people stick with their primary care physician this is where they start to get the "run around". I like my ped, but I only see her for runny noses, ear infections, and runny BMs. If you are concerned you might want to see a Rheumatologist or an Immunologist. If you remain concerned and if your child is bruising from a blanket or if you notice as he/she gets older they bruise very easily, I suggesst you get very agressive in getting answers until you are satisfied. I had to become a complete bull dog to get my son the attention and quality care he deserves, as a result he got a very early diagnosis and is doing beautifully now, others have not been so fortunate. |
| If my ped ordered blood work, should I be satisfied or should I still go to a specialist? |
| I take it the results were all clear? Was the ped worried about the bruises? Does the bruising occur only with the miracle blanket? I have a squirmer as well and we used the miracle blanket until 5-mths and never had any of the described issues with marks or bruises. But if it only occured with the miracle blanket and you've stopped using it, and the doctor says his blood is ok, maybe it was just a fluke. Also it sounds like from your post that you also bruise easily - I think bruising can be hereditary - maybe its nothing to worry about at all. |
Were you satisfied with the types of tests the ped ran and his/her interpretation and explanation? Go with your gut. If you are posting this question to DCUM, you are still concerned even after the testing. Listen to your inner voice. I just can't help, but think its completely abnormal for a baby to bruise from swaddling even if they are easy bruisers. I'm the PP with the child w/an autoimmune disorder. The ped always told me his symptoms were that of a "normal" child or that he had a virus. I took into my own hands and got the answers and treatment that my son deserves. |

OP - please consult your doctor. Not to freak you out, but it could be a sign of something serious - constricted blood vessels, heart problems (heart may not be able to pump efficiently), even leukemia.
Are there any other odd things - poor urine output? Full belly? |
