CCPCS working with DC to move to Rabaut Elementary

Anonymous
I received a card in the mail yesterday saying that they plan to move for the 2012/2013 school year and will serve Pre3 - 12 grade.

This is great for me since I live close to the school. Gives us a closer option for 6-12 grade.

It's probably bad for others who would have to commute by bus since the closes subway is not in walking distance.

Rabaut is a former junior high school (I'm pretty sure). It has features like a gym, plus an auditorium.

A got the postcard also, not with me now, my only relationship with the school is a recent lottery loser, and they sent it. There is a meeting scheduled to discuss later this month, at the Rabaut location.

You are correct. It was a Jr. High, not an elementary.

From a neighborhood listserv [I have nothing to do w/ the school, just noticed this post] --

Capital City Public Charter school is working with the District government on a plan to relocate to the former Rabaut School at 1st and Peabody Streets, NW in
Ward 4. Under this plan, DC would provide Capital City with a long-term lease and Capital City would renovate the building and outdoor spaces. We hope to occupy the renovated facility for the 2012-2013 school year.

This opportunity is exciting for many reasons:

Ø The facility is large enough to house all PK-12 students under one roof. Our plan is for distinct Elementary, Middle and High School programs, each with its own identity and space as well as principal and staff.

Ø The move to Rabaut will provide us with space to expand our elementary program and add a program for three-year olds.

Ø The Rabaut School is set on seven acres of land and abuts Fort Slocum Park, which will be an ideal setting for our Expeditionary Learning program.

Ø The Rabaut School has space to support our arts and fitness programs, including a large auditorium, a gymnasium, outdoor courts and fields.

An open meeting will be held at the Rabaut School on April 29, 2011 at 6:30pm to discuss this project and we would like to invite you to attend and participate.
We also welcome your feedback, suggestions and questions to feedback@...<mailto:feedback@...>.
