Parents, don't dress your girls like tramps

Interesting article on CNN about questionable clothing available for girls.

* padded/pushup bras for the under 12 crowd
* low-cut jeans
* sexy panties

Wish that more parents would read this article! As a teacher of four year olds I am appalled at what some of the little girls wear to school (heels, mini skirts, and make up!!)

I saw a little girl last weekend (roughly age 6-8) who was wearing knee-high white boots with a thick, platform type heel. I don't even like some of the sayings on infant clothes; the thought of going clothes shopping a few years from now makes me cringe!

I hear you! I was looking for some cheap bibs to bring to day care, and found a set that was inexpensive. I looked through them-- the first one was "Princess" and I was ... then there was "Flirt", and I was giving it the eyebrow raise... when I got to "Single", I was like... oh hell no. Single?!? For a baby? WTF?

Excellent article, horrible headline. "Tramps"? Really?

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks those sayings are not cute! I absolutely refuse to buy DD anything that says Princess or anything along those lines. Why do children's clothing makers think those things are appropriate for babies?

I agree with the sentiment but I thought the opinion piece (not an article, by the way) was far from well-written. "whore-making" thong panties? Um, what? I agree, 10 year olds do not need thong underwear, but keep in mind that plenty of non-whores where thong underwear to avoid panty lines. I remember in college i used to find them more comfortable than bikini undies (though now I think I must have been crazy - course, I wear the granny panties these days). I also thought the author's description of the girl was over the top. He comes across as being a creepy dude himself.

"tramps" is indeed the right word. Why are we sexualizing our girls so early!?!! It will happen soon enough without dressing them this way. Come on ladies!

How often do we see little girls dressed like this though? Not often. At least for me. I think most parents are sensible... or perhaps it's just the parents I know.

I got my daughter a padded bra, because her nipples showed through the other kind when she wore a t-shirt. The boys were harassing her and so I felt this was a way to avoid the trouble. She is much happier now. So, I think the padded bras have a purpose. Of course my daughter's bras are not push up bras or overly padded.

My MIL bought my four year old daughter panties that said "Lets talk about you" written on the front.

I even think some toddler clothes have gone out of control!

As mentioned in the piece, look around when you are in airports. I travel quite a bit and am constantly horrified by some of the outfits I have seen on little girls (and plenty of women too). I live in an area where most 10 year olds wear Hanna Andersson so it would be rare to see. My friend, who lives out West, told me she almost sent my dd a juicy outfit but didn't think I would like it (she was spot on!).
