shelf-life - feta

Anonymous
Does anyone happen to know the shelf-life of opened feta crumbles? There is no information on the package and little via google. Thanks!

no but if they smell strange or get slimy you need to toss

Mold will grow on it before you can recognize any foul odor or see any slime. I don't think it lasts more than a couple of weeks in the fridge though.

OP here. I ended up calling the Whole Foods cheese department. The fellow I talked to there said 10-12 days.

You can freeze it- I do all the time. It thaws pretty well.

They're being pretty conservative IMHO. I just finished a container of WF crumbled feta and it easily lasted about 20 days with no problems.

Honestly, as a Greek girl I would recommend buying in brine in the future. Even when you get a little mold, you can just scrape it off. You can also make more brine and put what you have left in there.

Another Greek girl here. I buy feta in a block and change the brine every three or four days. That greatly extends its shelf life.
