| Who uses them to curb appetite, and is there a great brand (not too yukky)? |
| I actually lost weight on Slim Fast once - but then I discovered in a rather unfortunate and untimely way that i had an allergic reaction to the Soy Protein Isolate in them (i was getting ready for a weekend with my long-distance boyfriend and I developed a cold sore!). Then I had better luck with powders that contain whey and albumen protein. Then I realized that i would prefer whole, fresh foods to protein powders... but i would have to recommend whey and albumen protein over soy protein isolate. |
| They don't really curb your appetite but they are good if you are doing a really low calorie diet because you get the benefit of the protein (mix with water instead of milk to avoid extra calories). GNC whey protein isolate is actually not too bad. |
| For me, a protein shake does help with appetite control. I often drink one between mid-morning and noon. It "holds" me 'til dinner, although sometimes I might have a light snack (veggies, some protein source) around 4. |
| Are protein bars any better/cheaper/healthier? |
No idea but they are yummy. |
| I've used Met-rx with water (bought at trader joes) and it has really made a big difference in my appetite. I only have one in the morning after exercise, but would be happier having more! Very good and satisfying for 200 cal. |
| How about organic ones - is there a difference between these and the general GNC types? |
I make my own in the AM. Frozen strawberries, bananas, protein powder. So good.
|
| I prefer how it comes out of a blender, but I've seen ads for "shakers" - so I could do it at work. Anybody have experience w/ these, and have one to recommend? |
| I make one for breakfast in the blender. Water + frozen fruit (some banana and/or berries) +lots of leafy green veggies + yogurt + protein powder. |
Do some work better/taste better than others? I've never added veggies before. TIA. |

I have been drinking some pre-made shakes recently as meal replacements and after the gym. The ones you make yourself are better but if you don't have the time I recommend the Atkins advantage brand, the have the least amount of sugar and a good serving of protein, the strawberry was yucky but the coffee flavored ones were delish and kept me full all morning!
also the special K shakes are pretty good but have more sugar less protein- FYI the trainer at the gym says bars are good but shakes help your body get protein it needs faster.... hope this helps |
