Vienna School Zones

Anonymous
I am looking at houses in Vienna. One house is close to the Reston border and is zoned for Madison currently. The closest high school is actually South Lakes. Are there any instances where a house located in Vienna has been sent to South Lakes? Just curious if that is something else I need to consider when deciding on a house.

Thanks.

the owners of the house we bought have a 22181 address but are zoned for South Lakes. Which I thought was really odd. There are also small pockets of 22182 that feed into Mclean HS. So yes it is possible.

All of the Town of Vienna goes to Madison, and some claim this will always be the case.

Parts of Fairfax County with Vienna mailing addresses are in 22180, 22181 and 22182 zip codes. Depending on location, assigned school could be Falls Church, Langley, Madison, Marshall, McLean, Oakton or South Lakes.

Last redistricting that affected these areas was in 2008; some neighborhoods in 22182 previously assigned to Madison were reassigned to South Lakes.

I wouldn't put anything past Fairfax County Public Schools, unfortunately. We are closer to two elementary schools than the one we feed into (in Vienna). I think anything's possible with rezoning. The best bet is to buy as close to a school you like, but even that's not a guarantee. Good luck!

We live in the Madison pyramid as well, closer to Madison than to South Lakes but really in between the 2. The thought has crossed my mind that it is possible to be redistricted, but I am not stressing right now about it for a couple reasons. We are at least 9 years away from high school. A lot can happen in that time...My understanding is that Fox Mill Elementary was redistricted to the South Lakes pyramid. From all that I understand is that FMES is a very strong feeder school and it will most likely have a strong positive effect on the school standings, etc. Also, if we were redistricted a slew of kids from Flint Hill would also be redistricted and that would only have a strong positive effect as well.

If your kids are years away from high school, be prepared for anything. Seriously. Who knows what's going to happen with redistricting if the Tysons Corner redevelopment plan actually works and thousands of people move into Tysons Corner. There might even be a new high school by then.

That's correct... Fox Mill and a bunch of other neighborhoods in Herndon/Oak Hill (20171) were redistricted to South Lakes.
