Has anyone seen these in the stores?
http://www.mccormick.com/Products/Recipe-Inspirations.aspx They are little recipe cards with the spices premeasured and packaged in little blister packs. I saw them at two stores a few weeks ago, half price I think (I bought some for about $1.50). I LOVED them. It wasn't rocket science -- just someone else measuring out the spices for you and giving you the grocery list -- but the recipes were good and when I was too busy to hunt for all my spices (or didn't have them) it was handy to have the spices right there on the card. (We're avoiding processed foods because of additives and preservatives and so on, so this was a nice substitute for easy dinner meals). But now I can't find them anywhere now. Have you seen them? |
| I've seen them near the butcher's counter in the Safeway in Kensington if that's any help - it seemed like an odd placement but maybe the idea is to get you to pick them up as you purchase meat. I have not used them yet, but appreciate the tip since I am a terrible cook and could use all the help I can get! |
| Try their website, lots off recipes, if you don't see it, send them an email. |
| I've seen them at Harris Teeter in Arlington. I think they're a great idea. |

Seen them at shoppers in spice section and safe way near refrigerated meats. They are great.

This is really out of character for me, because I am not particularly crazy about being either green or thrifty. But to me these things are such a huge waste- both of packaging and money. I did take a look at them and the spices used are not anything special. Heck, buy yourself a jar of "Italian Seasining" and "Lemon Pepper Seasoning," throw in some chili seasoning packets and you basically have it covered for WAY less money per use and less environmental impact.
That being said, I'm not going to hate on anybody who uses them. I'm all about buying the little snack cups of pudding and they are worse on both the thrifty and green front than those packets. We all take our short-cuts in different places! |
Yea, I agree these things are wasteful. (OP here). I don't know why they appeal to me -- something about meals where you open and dump, instead of having to search through my cabinets for spices, I guess. Like one recipe called for dill, which I use maybe once or twice a year. So that's one that's going to take some planning. I liked having everything all in one place-- I guess it's because I'm essentially disorganized, probably ADD.

| Do they make any that are for indian recipes? That is the one type of food where i don't have most of the spices already, and I end up never cooking indian b/c I don't want to spend $50 on full jars of all these spices that I won't use very often. |
| Wasteful and overpriced. Perfect for DCUMers. |
| There's one for Chicken Tikka Masala. |
You need to go to an Indian Grocery store. I finally got up the energy to go and the spices are SO MUCH CHEAPER. Although, I'd probably go for some premeasure stuff for Indian food also. |
