My bet is that MLSN creates 2 tiers. The top tier has the top p2p clubs and they play against MLS Acadamies. This league stays BY and maybe expands biobanding. MLS2 has all the rest of the p2p clubs and no acadamies this league changes to SY without biobanding. Every season MLSN1 pro/rels the top and bottom clubs between both leagues. |
MLSnext already has two tiers. Hard to do promotion/relegation in a club vs club model. No way current mlsnext 1 p2p clubs go for this. It’s a great idea, just no way it is actually implemented. |

Pro/Rel between two leagues with different age groupings is the dumbest idea in the thread lol |
SY and BY with 5 biobands is pretty much the same thing. Also MLSN doesnt really care if p2p clubs abuse biobanding rules. This just gives the Acadamies better competition to play against. I wish p2p parents understood how the academy system works. |
I understand enough about the academy system to understand that I cannot imagine they care at all whether the league is BY or SY. They could play every one of their teams up a year or 2 against the P2P teams and still beat them handily. Which is why I think if they get pressure from the P2P clubs to go SY, which they will becuase of all the U-little leagues changing and parents of U-littles liking it, they'll just say ... whatever.. and continue playing their academy teams which whatever age groups making them happy. |
Thats why I think MLSN2 will go SY. Some clubs might want to stay SY just to make things easy. Again, BY with biobands is roughly the sme thing s SY and on top of that Acadamies wont care if p2p clubs abuse bioband rules. MLSN1 and MLSN2 + pro/rel between the two leagues it wont be an issue because MLSN1 clubs will likely also have a MLSN2 team if they get relegated players just move to the MLSN2 team. On the other side of the coin if a club promotes to MLSN1 they'll likely maintain a MLSN2 team. |
That is a logistical nightmare for p2p clubs. No club is going to voluntarily drop from mls 1 to 2 to stay SY to make things easier. A mls 1 team that gets relegated is going to lose their players to a different club, they won’t just drop to the mls 2 team. |
You should first understand what Biobanding is, which is grouping players by physical attributes in spite of their actual age (not because of it). If you blanket Bioband to bridge SY/BY it loses its purpose and meaning. You also create at 17 month age system which is neither BY or SY. |

Either way it doesnt matter. You can split hairs on the perfect use of biobanding. Acadamies dont care. They just want high level competition. |
Academies may or may not care, but parents, kids, clubs, and tournament directors in the P2P system will, and rightfully so. |
No they wont. MLSN is the top league for boys. P2p clubs will be able to fill teams with player without even reaching out. |
If mlsnext stays BY, ecnl gets stronger. Maybe not strong enough to overtake mlsnext and maybe mlsnext doesn’t care, but ecnl will be stronger because of it. |
| You act like MLSN p2p will still be around in 5 years. some uppity parents will continue to fall for this racket, but skepticism is building heavily. And the excessive travel and time is growing less and less compatible with people’s lifestyles and pocketbooks. |
