| My 4-month-old has been breastfed or fed expressed breast milk thus far. I'm back at work and having trouble pumping enough to make it work, but he refuses to eat(or spits out) any and all formulas we've tried. Has anyone had a similar experience? Any tips? |
Our son was 4 months when we had to try to get him to drink formula - he had been exclusively fed BM until that time. My dh would try every day and finally one day he drank it - it was actually Thanksgiving day, I dropped to my knees and gave thanks!! If I recall, it had been about two weeks of trying - I had pretty much given up but my dh insisited on continuing to try. We had to use the special formula - Alimentum and it is truely disgusting so I could not believe he finally took it. Once we got him to take and entire bottle, we continued to give him one formula feed daily so he would not refuse again down the road. He is now 9 months and continues to drink his Alimentum happily ....
(We did try mixing formula and BM but only briefly because it meant throwing out my milk every time he refused it. And yes, he refused even 90% BM/10% F mixture. So we stuck to just straight formula and that is what worked in the end) Good Luck! |
