getting a good unit at Sea Colony?

Anonymous
I've heard they can be really hit or miss. any tips on how to find a nice one? I dont care if the furniture is fancy, but I want comfortable, clean, and well-stocked kitchen. Do you just pick 'platinum' with Resort Quest, or does that not really cover it? Also, any recommendations for realtors other than Resort Quest? Maybe they can help us find the right unit...

We picked a platinum on Resort Quest and I was really disappointed. Tons of old magazines lying around. Water damage along the floorboards in the living room and some pipe even started leaking while we were there and we had to put towels down (I called RQ maintenance and they came and looked at it and said they couldn't fix it until we checked out). The place was clean enough, I guess, but I was disappointed given what we were paying and the rating RQ gave the unit.

Jack Lingo, Realtors has never steered us wrong but why Sea Colony? Are you set on that community?

We obviously look at the pictures of the furnishings on ResortQuest, and we also bring a lot of our own pots, pans, cutting boards, knives, olive oil, paper towels, etc. That way it doesn't matter what they supply.

yah, sadly. We've rented a house the last 2 years which I loved, but DS is only 2 and doesn't love the beach (and those beaches with the rips aren't very safe for him to splash around in anyway). He loves the pool, though. So unless you have a recommendation for another oceanside community with pools, kids stuff, and views and smell of ocean for DH and me to enjoy when we're stuck in at night after DS goes to sleepa t 8, Sea Colony it is.

Out of curiousity, what do you consider necessary for a well stocked kitchen? We own a platinum unit in sea colony that rents well, but we don't cook much on vacation. I like to accommodate renters, so I'm curious what we should supply! Thanks!

sure. first of all, clean stuff in decent condition (not teflon pans that look like they got in a fight with a metal fork!). I'd say the basics are big pasta pot, smaller pot, decent size frying pan with lid, a smaller frying pan, a colander, a couple cutting boards, a few sharp knives, a wine opener, cheese grater, basic utensils (spatulas, wooden spoons, slotted spoons, ladle). I could probably make do with that. We've stayed in a bunch of condo/house type places since DS was born and I just wish the cleaning or rental service would make sure the place had these basics. It always seems like there's no spatula (or only a metal one for use on a teflon pan), or the corkscrew is broken, no colander to drain pasta in, etc.

can I ask you - what makes a unit platinum? Does it have anything to do with maintenance/cleanliness, or is it more about how 'nice' your furniture is?
