Next week for 2 days I have a 50 year old, 2 -30 year olds, 21 year old, 10 year old, and 3 year old visiting me in Northern Virginia. Some have doen the DC thing, some have never been. I am actually at a loss at what to do with them in the DC area, Northern Virginia, or MD suburbs. Thought the Butterfly garden in Brookside, but doesn't open until May. A Washington Walks tour doesn't start until May either. Next Wed and Thurs is when they will be here and I am hoping I can make the trip memorable in the short period of time we have. Appreciate any ideas.
OP here - also tickets to Washington Monument sold out.
If Baltimore is not too far for you, I'd recommend the National Aquarium. It's fantastic for all ages. Amazing place. There are lots of other great things to do in the area there also, to round out the day.
Udvar Hazy is awesome.
Dumbarton Oaks is fantastic, very few tourists go there and it is beautiful this time of year. Also the building museum was great when my parents were here, b/c I let them look while I took my 2 yo to the play area.
