Schools for Children with Asperger's

Anonymous
There seem to be a decent amount of schools in the DC area for children with Aspergers. I can't find one close enough to Anne Arundel County where we live. Any suggestions?

The Auburn School is opening a branch in Baltimore next fall. Would that be accessible to you?

Do you know where the Baltimore campus will be exactly? The summer camp is going to be at a library.

I don't know, but if you call I bet they do by now.

Maddox-if you are willing to commute to Montgomery co and if your child is in the age range.

That looks good and the Ivy Mount Model Asperger Program looks awesome but the commute would be a killer. I also cannot find the tuition on the website. Does anyone know? I know Auburn is 32,000 and I don't see how we would be able to pay our mortgage if we had to pay that much for tuition. Either we have a roof over our head or we send our child to a special school....doesn't seem fair.

Is Ivymount less than 30K?

The ivy mount Asperger's program and Maddux are two different programs.

Grades 2-10

I have no idea of the tuition but it sounds like a lot of the kids have their tuition covered by their home school districts.

Preschool-2nd Grade

Maddux may consider kids with Asperger's but they tend to be very specific as to what they are looking for and how the child will fit with the other kids in the class. The goals for Maddux:

Overview
The Maddux School is an early childhood/primary level school offering challenging curricula and supportive programming for students in pre-school through second grade. Children generally come to The Maddux School with cognitive strengths but may demonstrate mild vulnerabilities in:
social and play-skill development
pragmatic language
self confidence/self-esteem
sensory integration
motor-planning
fine motor skill development
self-regulation
The Maddux School’s mission is to establish strong foundations for learning in a warm, nurturing setting. Transdisciplinary activities led by highly trained teachers and therapists target social competence and academic success in a supportive, personalized environment. Speech and occupational therapies as well as art, music, physical education, yoga and library periods enrich the challenging and innovative academic program.

The key word is mild. They will do an intake of each applicant to determine if they can work within the program.

Admissions are done for next year (2011-2012)

Depending on the grade level the tuition is probably $21,000-$28,000. (we were there a few years ago)

I don't believe so. The program runs 11 months a year. As a poster notes, many students covered by home district which includes transporting student.

Ivymount is $47 K if you do not qualify for funding from the school district. Have you looked at Norbel? We toured it a few years ago and it seemed like a really good school but the commute from MoCo was tough for us.
