| I've heard 50 percent?... |
|
I always do 15% and round up to the next dollar - when the guy is nice. If they're not I do 10%.
I have a baby and I'm pleased to pay extra for someone who cares. |
| Thanks! I was gonna say 50 percent seems really high. especially when they are charging you 50 cents every 30 seconds! |
| My rides within central DC usually cost between 8 and 10 dollars. On this my aim is to tip about a dollar. |
I usually tip about a dollar to two dollars, if the guy is nice and takes the most expeditious route. Often I'll tell him which way to go. For example, I hate 16th St so I'll ask him to take Columbia Rd. If he has attitude about that, too bad for him! The dollar fuel surcharges is a bitch though! That makes me less likely to tip well.
|
| I'd say about $1 for every $5 of fare (including the tax surcharge, the fee for calling, etc.). If I have luggage and they don't help with it, I definitely tip less. |
| Depends on the guy. I had one that definitely overcharged me, so he didn't get as big of a tip. When they're nice to me, I'll tip more (15-20%). Sometimes I'm chatty when going out at night, so if they carry on a pleasant conversation with me they'll get a nice tip. |
| I tip 10% unless it's great service, then about 20%. Usually is a dollar or two. |
| Usually about 2 dollars. |
| 15-20% or $1.00-2.00 for short rides. |
How did he overcharge you? |
|
Yeah-- now that we've joined the rest of the civilized world on meters, overcharging should be pretty difficult.
Do you mean he drove the least efficient route? |
Really? Not a percentage? If you go to the airport (which I have to about once a month) if it Dulles that is pricey...2 dollars would be an insult--especially if he has to pick up my bag. |
I guess OP should clarify if she's talking about short intra-DC trips with hailed cabs or suburban airport trips in called cabs. It's true that these could vary quite a bit in the kind of compensation that's appropriate. |
