I've heard people say this before... I'm wondering whether many parents feel this way.
And if so, supplement in what areas? Curriculum / subjects or enrichment? |
| We use Johns Hopkins CTY math and language online programs to supplement. |
| yes -- academically, we have looked into kumon. socially, we do acting, dance and violin. our child is extremely shy and i can see how she could get left behind in class sometimes. not blaming it on the teachers, we know that we have to take extra steps to help our daughter along. |

15:50 -- Thanks!! I'll look into that...
16:01 -- I'll check that out as well. And I can see the need for enrichment, especially for kids who naturally so inclined.
Do you both feel that the academics are just not challenging enough? I guess I'm trying to get at whether it is a DCPS curriculum issue, or an implementation issue at specific schools or with specific teachers within a school? May I ask which schools your children attend? Would they be considered "advanced" academically (whatever that exactly means, right?! )?
Thanks in advance for sharing!!

I don't feel the need to because of the academic curriculum but let's face it, they don't get as much of the extracurriculars.
We are lucky that our DCPS school is an arts integration school so there is a special emphasis on art and music. Our supplements are dance, foreign language and team sports. |
| Yes; although our children were doing fine, we hired a tutor for math and english, and for SSAT preparation. We also added music lessons. |
