Eco-friendly cleaning service

Anonymous
Can anyone recommend an eco-friendly cleaning service? I live in DC and am looking for a monthly cleaning using non-toxic products. Thanks.

Might be hard to find. Might be easier to find an individual to clean your house and stock the house with green products that you pick out. That's what i do!

I agree. I use a cleaning crew, but not one of those companies, just a woman who works with a small crew. They buy all the products and we pay her back. She uses mostly green stuff, which I don't even really care about. But if I asked her to use a certain product she absolutely would. I think any private cleaner(s) would do that.

We use Y and Y cleaning.

John and Rocky - formerly of Little Green Men. They bring all their own stuff I did receive permission from him to post his email (I asked him specifically if I could post it on THIS forum), not sure if it will get taken down:

Not OP - but looking for a cleaning company also. How much does Y&Y charge and about how big is your place? Thanks!

Thanks! I've heard good things about Little Green Men, and Y&Y looks really good too.

I use The Cleaning Authority and am not happy with them but haven't replaced them yet; also tried Hello Green Clean and they were absolutely awful.

TCA is just lazy - they do a decent cosmetic clean, but never do things like lift the cuisinart to clean the counter under it, or dust under the bedroom furniture that stands 14 inches off the ground. Maybe I'm just a high-maintenance client? For PPs who recommended Y&Y and John and Rocky, do they have the kind of attention to detail that I want?

We used little green men, but after a change in ownership or leadership we found our house wasn't actually getting cleaned. I would come home on the days they cleaned and would just clean my own toilets because their crew hadn't bothered to. It really pissed me off. It may be that the newly formed business referenced in this thread stems from the original little green men, and we were happy with them.

I would second calling Paula's Organic Cleaning Service. She is great. They are accomodating to your schedule, they are honest, they clean better than most anyone I've had. They even wash the walls They are also green and the house smells fresh, not antiseptic.

I had a really bad experience with Paula's Organic Cleaning Service. I hired them to do a move-in clean. They brought 4 people over, but they didn't do much. They didnt wipe down the inside of the kitchen cabinets like I asked (and is pretty standard in a move-in clean). They didn't clean the fridge (like I asked) and there was a roach in the freezer when I opened it. I ultimately sent Paula an email explaining what happened and she never responded. It was a shame because I was hoping to find a good service to use.

Annonymous I recommend Paula's Cleaning Services without reservations. They have been consistently excellent. They are pleasant, professional, very thorough, honest and reliable. I am so pleased to have found them.

Jessycleaningservice.com will do organic products if you ask her too.

We use them occasionally when our regular housekeeper can't work for some reason, and like them - very cheap, pretty good clean

We do have a regular housekeeper. We stock her with our own green products and she uses them (most of the time). Occasionally I see her trying to sneak some bleach into the tub. She's been with us forever and is very old school and I think she truly believes that the newer organic stuff does not clean as well. I recently developed some asthma and so we've actually been really strict about eliminating chemicals from the house.

The one thing that is nice about going with a professional (like Jessy or the aforementioned Paula) who can specialize in organic is that they know how to get things really clean with gentle products. Our housekeeper basically just uses what we give her, doesn't bring any tools / knowledge of her own to the deal. But that's fine, we just take a more active role (I tend to clean along with her when she comes, because I'm home those days).
