Okay, I grew up n a very 'stew and boil' everything house. Yuck! I love to cook but tend to stay away from anything that resembles a stew. I am sure that perhaps my Mom was just not the best at them and they may actually be good so I need some recipes or tips. Reason being, my son is about to turn 7 months and I need to start giving him chicken, meat etc so I figure stews etc would be good for the whole family. Dinner for us, puree for him I have no idea where to start - cuts of meat, pots, pans etc.
Any suggestions? TIA! |
| Beef stew: "stew meat" or "cubed chuck"; potatoes, carrots, peas, onions. Cook in a cast-iron casserole dish on the stovetop. When you make a stew, do not skip the step of browning the meat in oil before assembling the stew to simmer on the stove for a long time. |
| actually, stew meat is pretty stringy, and is not what I'd recommend for a baby. I'd start with things from ground meat. Make the adults hamburgers, turkey burgers, tacos, etc., and then cook a few pieces plain with a little salt and pepper for the LO. Also, no need to give him meat so soon unless you want to - there are plenty of other soft foods for him to try first. at this point he gets the protein he needs from BM/formula. |
