Baby proofing

Has anyone hired a baby proofing consultant to come to their home and to tell them what to do? We'd like to hire someone but have no idea where to find such person. Any help would be appreciated.

Safestart Babyproofing is a local place that we used to babyproof our place 2 years ago. I believe the owner is a DC Urban Mom. It is not cheap, but worth it if you and your husband are not that handy!

OP here- thanks! That was super fast. My issue is that my DH does not believe me when I tell him certain things are dangerous for DD. He will believe an expert.

At what age do most people start baby proofing?

We did ours when our son was about a year and was about to walk. There is tons you can have done - we were in a townhouse at the time we had Safestart out and they put up gates on both ends of the stairs and latches on the kitchen and bathroom cabinets. You do have to buy their products, too, so don't go out and get your own and then ask them to install them - it is a liability thing.

If your place isn't huge, you can just do it yourself. Get some locks for the kitchen cabinets, some door knob covers for the rooms you don't want your child in, a couple of gates, and some outlet plugs. It really isn't as daunting as people make it out to be, and you certainly don't have to shell out big money for it.
