What do parents do with young kids in school, during the summers

It occurs to me as I am trying to muddle my way through the process of getting my son who will be 4, into school next year, what do people do, during the summer? My husband and I both work full time, and will need after school which seems easy enough...but what about summer with a public school?

Summer camp! Some have after care.

Also, summer is the best time to find college students who are "home for the summer" and need to make money. tho I've found their schedules can be weird, not 8 to 6, because of internships, etc.

But this could be a good complement to a summer camp, in the afternoon.
