Polk Elem. in Alexandria - Tell me about it!

We're zoned for this school and we'd like to hear from families with experiences there. We're trying to gauge whether we're going to transition our little ones to Polk, or look for alternatives. Of course, we'll do the school visits, etc., but I'm open to hearing from those who are most familiar with the school. I read posts in this forum all the time, haven't heard much about this school. Hopefully, there are some Polk parents out there who will post.

Note the demographic of that school doesn't lend itself to those who would be posting on these boards. Better to ask your neighbors for their experience.

I think it is pretty middle of the road--doesn't have the reputation of MacArthur or Lyles Crouch but not a disaster like Jefferson Houston. I know older kids that went there and they are doing very well academically. Also, remember that different people want different things from schools. Go to the playground after school and talk to the parents there, tour the school, meet the principal, look at the data on the ACPS website.

OP here: Thanks. I've seen the thread on Alexandria schools, but there really isn't any mention of Polk. I'm gathering that it must be a very middle of the road, because I really haven't heard anyone say very much about it - it's not horrible, but it's not great.
