We're planning a local move (10 miles) and expect to have 4 or 5 moving men for the one-day move. How much should we plan to tip each one? I want to be sure to have enough cash on hand. (I asked the moving company folks, and they wouldn't tell me
Thanks! |
| 10-15% of the total move cost - divided among the men. |
| wow, i guess i'm cheap. i gave movers $100 tip for a move that cost about $1500. i think there were 3 guys. |
| I just gave my movers $100 for 3 men, took them 3 days to pack me out. I also supplied drinks and lunch every day. I think they were happy with the tip. Moving cost alot of money, 10 percent would seem like a lot of money to me. My husband did not even want to give the $100. |

We have moved every 2 years. We pull out enough cash in advance to make the call that day and how well its gone.
We always give the 'head' guy of the day the money. Hopefully he pays them all out. We provide water bottles, but not food. Last November we had 8 guys from Gullivers Movers - I think we tipped them each $30. |
| We usually do $20 each and provide sodas and pizza for lunch. |

I used Gulliver's and gave $40 each (4 people) for a move that took about 4 hours. We were prepared to do either $20 each for an adequate job, or $40 each for a superb job. The crew that moved us did a wonderful job - they were very professional, and very careful with our stuff, so we gave $40 each. I handed the cash directly to each person. I hope the crew leader didn't think we were giving him $40 to divide among all of them! I didn't think about that.
We also provided bottled water and gatorade. |
