Considering buying a house in the willows of potomac.

Is Stone Mill Elementary a good school?

Stone Mill is good though a little heavy handed on the testing.

My biggest complaint is that the school rents out much needed space to a private daycare facility. The parking lot is crazy because there are not enough spaces for parents and staff for the daycare and the school. I have friends at other schools who rave about Bar T but Stone Mill uses the daycare for aftercare and the program is not very good. The daycare does the aftercare program on school grounds not the rental space so it provides no benefit. I'm not anti-daycare, we used a different daycare when our kids were young. Its annoying not only that my tax dollars are being used for this but more importantly that school space is being used to subsidize a private daycare.

I'm not a Stone Mill parent, but our elem also rents out space to a before/after care provider. I think that is fairly common.

I'm not talking about before and aftercare. Those sessions are held in the main school. Right next to the school, on school property, sharing the same parking lot and outdoor space is a private daycare that takes infants - preschool kids. The Stone Mill students get no use out of the building rented to the daycare. The school system paid to replace the roof this summer for the daycare too. It is one of the most expensive daycares in the area too but the rent it pays for the building is very low.
