I heard some bad comments about Fox Chapel HGC (extensive bullying, not very safe environment etc) from a couple of friends. Anyone with similar or opposite experience ?

I have heard many HGC parents (in fact two families who we know closely) have pulled their kids out because of issues at school. I also have seen some kids who graduated from Fox chapel did not get selected in MS magnet programs. We decided not to accept the invitation last year based on friends' experiences. |

Fox Chapel seems to have a very interesting program going on. Problem is the host school.

| A coworker has 2 children in Fox Chapel HGC. She said it is really not that bad. The only time the kids are mixed is during recess. |

I thought they were also mixed for specials and social studies. Not sure about science.

I don't understand when you say "problem is the host school." By "host school" do you mean Fox Chapel or the neighborhood school where the child comes from ? |

| Update! I'm the 3/31 8:09am. We accepted the invitation and my child is attending the Fox chapel program. We like the program and the school so far. Very promising. I think it's a crime not to let them go if they get the chance. Homework is 1.5 to 2 hour per night. No homework on Fridays. Expects to read 2 - 3 books per month. One book report a month. The kids are given tests frequently for assessment and progress check. 2 groups of Math (Math 5 and Math 6) are offered to 4th Gr. GT depends on the assessment tests and 3rd Gr. math teacher recommendations. Very promising instrumental music program too. GT teachers there are excellent. We don't see any bullying. New school building completed this Summer, so the environment is good. Lunch and recess are only 20 min. each. It is my child's biggest complaint. |

Thanks 3/31 8:09. Do you know what kind of test they take at 3rd Grade for admission ?
