We are moving to MD from NJ. We are interested in Kentlands/Lakelands neighborhood.
Looking for some feedback on Rachel Carson elementary. My son will be starting kingergarten in the fall.

Enormous kindergarten but the parents I know are fairly happy with the school.

Current Rachel Carson parent here. My child is in K and there are 21 kids in the class. I think they have 2 classes of 21 kids and 4 classes (in bigger rooms ) of 26-ish kids. All of the grades have 6 or so rooms. There are portables like many of the other schools around here. The older kids are in the portables.

Its a big school (2nd largest in MoCo I believe) but we have been happy so far.

I had heard that because of the overcrowding they were considering redistricting
and sending the kids to other schools in the surrounding area.

Anyone know anything?about this.

They did this past school year--Thurgood Marshall got a significant increase, and many were previously zoned for RCES.

How many kindergarten classes are there this school year (2012 - 2013)?
Does anyone here do before/after care? What times does it operate?

There are 7 kindergarten classes this year. I have heard great things about the Bar- T program, but our child does not go to before or after care

They were just named a Blue Ribbon School. So that's a plus.
