Ok- I think their show is stupid as all get out, but I really do enjoy the cupcakes at Georgetown Cupcake. I have loved them ever since they opened their first location. The problem is that I live in Alexandria and it's just a pain to get over there, especially when you consider that there's almost always a line. Any recs for similar cupcakes in Alexandria or Arlington? I was not impressed with cakelove. Haven't tried Alexandria Cupcake.. is it worth it? I really like the cream cheese frosting..
Lavender Moon, Old Town, Royal street - best ever!
I drive from Tysons for Buzz cupcakes in Alexandria. Yum!
They did a blind taste test in Washington Post awhile back and Giant cupcakes won in every category. I think Georgetown cupcake actually came in dead last. It is the hype.
I really, really like Curbside Cupcakes. They sell from trucks and post their weekly menu on their website. I found Georgetown cupcakes to be too dry and crumbly and I prefer these. My favorites are Dulce de Leche and Black Cherry, but they just introduced a new flavor this week (Oatmeal Raisin) that also sounds amazing. Check out their website and you can even sign up for email alerts when they are in the neighborhood. They mostly do DC, but one of their trucks makes it to Arlington on Fridays (Ballston, Clarendon, Courthouse and Rosslyn are their typical stops) - this might be more convenient to Alexandria.
Source? I am pretty sure that this is the only thing they've done: http://www.moderndomestic.com/2008/11/washington-post-cupcake-wars-they-finally-have-a-winner/ which says the opposite of what you claim. |
Honestly, I hate Georgetown Cupcake. Bleh..
I agree, these are addictive. I'm glad I don't live in old town, I would eat them wayyyy too often! |
Second Buzz!
Isn't there a Crumbs in Clarendon?
OP - I know that you are saying that you don't want to drive too far or deal with the lines, but depending on when you go, there is either no line, or a short line at the Bethesda store. I have tried many cupcake places and still find Georgetown Cupcake the best.
Baked and Wired (also in Georgetown... 31st Street) is just as good IMHO. They also have lines but they are much shorter. The coconut cupcake is sooo good!
IMO, Georgetown Cupcake's speciality is the Red Velvet--amazing! Everything is else is usually eh.
Love baked and wired!!!!!
give Duncan Hines a try. Really. They are awesome.
