New in town: Need more info about Janney ES

We've just relocated to DC, our DD will start K in the Fall. Our ILs recommended we check out Janney Elementary, we were initially planning to send her to a private school.
What's your overall impression of the school? Looks good on the website... |

| Welcome to DC! I have no first-hand knowledge of Janney, but it's considered one of the best elementaries in DC. And I believe they are finishing an expansion project that should make the school facilities nicer. If you search this forum for "Janney" you'll come up with a lot of posts on the school. Also - if you are talking about private school for the upcoming fall, you are too late to apply to most. Most have already done their admissions for next year (most of them follow roughly the same schedule.) |

Why doesn't anyone ever do a search of the archives instead of assuming that no-one has anything better to do than answer a question that's been asked a thousand times already?

Never judge a public school by its website unless you plan to volunteer to be the site admin. Try not to listen to "reputations" or comments about a school unless it's firsthand from someone who's been there in the last 18 months. If you are not already in-boundary for Janney then you're dead last on the waitlist. Most likely you'll find something that works for your child and your family. Welcome back! |

| My child does not attend Janney, but I have several friends whose do. Great school from all accounts. Only problem is overcrowding...because it's such a great school tons of young families have moved to the in-boundary neighorhoods. |

| Janney is a great school. We are new comers as well. Love the community, my kids are happy. Supplementing at home though, but that's just me. |

We are thinking about moving inbounds for Janney. Could you share more about what and how you supplement? In specific subjects? To make up for deficiencies you see in the curriculum? Or more in the extra-curriculars? Any info you would be willing to share would be SO helpful!!

| It's going to be hard to get into a private school for K at this time of year. Janney is a very good elementary school. |
