Does anyone live in MD/Walt Whitman Cluster area & do the commute to DC?

If so, what is your commute like? Are we talking 30 minutes, 45 minutes, an hour? We are intending to move to MD and would likely put DD in Carderock Springs or Bannockburn elementary school since we are looking in those areas but I work in downtown DC so I'd like to know what I'm getting into commute wise. We currently live in NW DC. Thanks for your comments!

Where in D.C.? We live in Bethesda (off River Road) and my husband commutes downtown. He used to drive when he worked at Dupont Circle, then K St. Now that he is working near the Mall, driving became intolerable and he now takes Bethesda metro.

I work at the K street/GW area. I live in McLean Gardens in NW DC now and I hit Mass Ave and it takes me 20 minutes in the a.m. and 15 minutes in the p.m. I'd be curious to know how long it took your husband to get to K street, although I'm kind of afraid to hear the answer

OP here again, and I'd be interested to know what route he recommends - hit River Road or avoid it like the plague? Macarthur Bvd.? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

I live in Bethesda off Mass Ave and it takes me about 25-30 mins to get to either capitol hill or k street at rush hour, about 20 mins to downtown at non rush. The time of morning makes a huge difference. If I go at 7:45 it is 20 mins, at 8 is is 25-30 and at 8:15 it can be as long as 40.

and add 45 more minutes to your ride in due to BRAC

It depends on when you leave. I live near River & the beltway and if I leave early enough, Clara Barton/Canal gets me to GW in about 20-25 minutes. If I leave around 8 or 9, I will usually take Mass and it's more like 35-40 minutes. The trip home is usually about 3 or 4 minutes quicker for some reason (again, depending on departure time).

Wait -- the U.S. is relocating a military station in Kensington, MD, area???! what in the heck are you alluding to.

Oh, you meant BRAC is moving 2,500 jobs to the Naval Hospital and new people will therefore be commuting down Cedar Lane, through the Kensington Parkwood area. AmIright?

No, certainly not, no-one lives in the Whitman cluster and commutes downtown.

I commute downtown from the Carderock Springs area on Mass Ave; leave at 7:20 and at my desk at 8am; earlier when Congress is out and in the summer. Getting in town in about 40 mins =leaving before 8.

Can you tell me what route you take? I clearly am going the wrong way!

Why not drive out to Carderock and Bannockburn at the time you will leave for work and then turn around and drive to your office to see how the commute is?
