Tipping Cleaning Lady

Anonymous
We use a cleaning service-they usually send the same person. Just wondering what a reasonable tip would be for biweekly cleaning service-SFH with 3 bedrooms and a basement.

Why are you tipping the cleaning lady?

We don't tiP weekly. We give one weeks cleaning at Christmas.

why you tipping your hair lady? nail lady? moving guy? pea pod guy?

tipping is way over-expected and over-done these days!
no way in hell do I ever tip the following:
1) cleaning lady
2) starbucks or any other carry out food establishment that has a tip jar
3) pea pod - unless he goes out of the way to do something or unless my order is huge
4) grocery baggers or loaders

The only one of those I tip is my hair stylist. She A) comes to my house and B) seriously underchargers vs what I'd have to pay if I saw her at the salon.

Mind, I don't a standing date with my cleaners; it's more "WTH do you mean your parents are coming to visit THIS WEEKEND?!". If I did, I might do a holiday bonus. I don't see the point in tipping those in the service industry who are actually paid a living wage.

Mine come every other week and I tip $20 total. They are with a cleaning service company and I figure the company takes most of the money I pay for the actual cleaning - they are hard working and I appreciate them.

We tip our cleaning lady at Christmas only, but she's an independent cleaner and I know she's getting 100 percent of the money each time she comes to clean. If we were using a cleaning service, I think I'd do $20 like the PP.

Anyone tip the FedEx or UPS delivery person? I think it would be nice since other service folks are receiving this kind of compensation.

I also give a $20 tip for the same reasons. It is tough living on minimum wage.

I don't tip them. Ridiculous. I use a service and a different team comes every time. I've had teams come more than once, but seriously, it's their job. They don't live on tips. I don't tip anyone at Christmas either. Maybe if I had a nanny, but more likely I'd get her a nice gift.

I tip: wait staff, bartenders, airport luggage guy at curbside, taxi drivers, and salon people. 20% usually and that's that.

I do exactly what PP does.

I have to ask though, does anyone seriously NOT tip their hair dresser?

14:24 here. For the longest time I didn't realize you were supposed to!

What about giving the cleaning lady a raise? We've been using her for more than a year. Do I offer more or will she ask?

We don't tip other than at the end of the year.

For a service, I think $20 is great. But I hate services. The cleaners are making a tiny fraction of what you are paying. For a cleaner who is your employee (i.e. you'd be considering raises), it's not a tip, it's a bonus And we give a cleanings worth at the holidays. No reason to tip when you might as well just add it to the salary. (Which is even more important if you are going to the trouble to pay legally)
