I'm very curious how efficient our home and our habits are. We have all electric power (no gas), almost 2000 sqft, and are on the yearly billing so each month is the same, and we pay $132/mo. Child and nanny are home all day.
What's your monthly bill? Are you all electric? How big is your home? |
| $75 avg/month. Gas and electric. 1500sq ft townhouse. |
|
We just got a new airconditioning unit last summer, so we're pretty efficient.
Our house is 3300 square feet. A/C bill for months other than June, July and August averages $65 or $70. Last summer, it was about $150 a month once we got the new A/C in place. |
Is your house all electric or do you cook or heat with gas? |
| $50 avg/month. Gas and electric. 1200sq ft townhouse. |
| I wonder what we are doing wrong? 3 level townhouse, all electric $300-600 a month |
| Ugh. We really need a heat pump. Electric is $250 -- average. 1,500 sq feet townhouse. |
What temperatures do you set in the winter and summer? Do you have good windows/doors/insulation? Do you have one climate zone for all three floors? THs can be hard because if you have the thermostat on one level, often you've got one floor that feels nice, one that's too hot, and one that's too cold. |
| 1800 sq ft townhouse - $200-$300+/month |
| We also got R-49 insulation in our attic, which helped tremendously this past winter. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the AC will work more efficiently this summer. |
Cook with electricity, heat with gas. |
What's your thermostat set on? Ours is 69 while we're home in the cold months, 65 during the day. In the summer, we keep it at 79 degrees all day and night. |
| I live in a 1200sq ft, poorly insulated condo w/ outdated EVERYTHING. So, I pay $250-$275 per month thanks to our cheapskate landlord. thank god we're moving next month. |
PP here. I guess I now know what we are doing wrong. No heat pump, one thermostat for all three levels. We have replaced the windows, but did not notice a big difference. Also DH is obsessed with AC, which makes bill high in the summer. For example, he already had it one this week. Drives me carzy, but that is a different thread...

| Appliances can also make a big difference. We have a heat pump and dual climate zones (1 on each floor) and that's great--huge. But we also noticed a difference when we got a new fridge and dryer. |
