Unaccompanied minors

Anonymous
Our 6 year old is dying to go up to Boston to see her grandparents and she would be flying as an unaccompanied minor. Wondering if anyone has any experiences with this and what airlines might be best. Options are JetBlue, United, US Air and Delta. Thanks very much.

OP, we have done unaccompanied minor flying several times and had good experiences. The fees and restrictions vary a lot by carrier, so the first thing to check is the websites to see what the differences are. We have generally had better experiences with the newer, more family oriented carriers like Southwest, so I would probably have a slight preference for Jet Blue on your list (and they have the good inflight entertainment). You also are better off with an airline that has lots of flights on the route. Good luck and I am sure your DC will love the extra visit with the GPs. My kids are at my parents house right now and having a great time.

Thanks for the good info--I was leaning towards JetBlue but had forgotten about the inflight entertainment. That seals the deal!

My kids have flown as unaccompanied minors on several airlines. The only airline I would avoid is Delta. Their customer service is completely worthless. I wouldn't trust them with my cat, much less my kids.

Agreed about Delta. We had a bad experience with my son flying unaccompanied there. (Not dangerous, just disorganized and confused.)
