Peacock Cafe

Pizza Paradiso on M Street in Georgetown. Good wood fired pizza. Other options besides pizza.

Would have said Mendocino, but it's gone. I think peacock would be great.

Peacock! If you want more expensive, you could do Cafe Milano next door - but I think Peacock is more fun and less expensive

The little restaurant in Cady's Alley owned by developer Anthony Lanier or Farmers + Fishers at the harbor.

It's pp again...I couldn't think of the name of the restaurant in Cady's Alley...so I looked it up -- Cafe Leopold's...very fun...good food and great place to people watch.

That's Leopold's, and I agree it's a good suggestion. The casual restaurants in Georgetown, with a few exceptions (Leopold's, Bistro Lepic, Bistro Francais, Thunder Burger) range from mediocre to terrible. Cafe Milano, in particular, is a blight on the dining landscape. Grossly overpriced, bad food, snotty staff - it's for people who care more about appearances than food.

Il Canale. Wonderful Italian food, good looking Italian waiters, nice bar.

What is the definition of "very sophisticated mom"? A lot of negative qualities jump into my head right away. I would like to hear the positive qualities. Anyone?

I'm not the OP pp but I would think a "sophisticated" mom is one from the East Coast, goes to the theatre, stays in shape, dresses sharply, reads the NYT, can speak a few languages and works at a fairly interesting job or has her own business. I think many Washington mothers would qualify as "sophisticated" compared to the rest of the country...DC has the most educated population on average.

And the fugliest.

OP here -- we went to the Tombs, as the daughter was looking at Georgetown U, and that seemed to be a good place to give her a sense of university life. BTW, the mom is lovely; family lives in London. Neither daughter nor mom minded that the food was so-so.

It's just that very sophisticated sounds like code for super high maintenance, intolerant of the little people and uses way more than than their fair share of resources.. I guess you need to be very well educated to be very sophisticated. But just because you are well educated doesn't mean you are sophisticated. Just saying.

Oh my god, thanks for the laugh.

I guess you ended up being quite wrong. See you in London, NY, or LA....!
