Infertility Support and Discussion
|
I have severe endometriosis and really need to find an RE. I have seen two and felt that one (Dr. Sacks at Columbia) was just too all over the map and smiley and I felt sort of like he was a used car salesman. I feel bad saying that because he was really nice, but it was just overwhelming and over the top. The second one I am not even going to name, because I don't know what his deal was but he didn't seem to know a THING about endo and kept telling me that I was going to be fine and that I don't even qualify as having a fertility problem, that I'd be pregnant in three months etc. Besides the fact that I didn't trust a word out of his mouth, I don't need someone feeding me rainbows and smiles. It just gets my hope up needlessly.
Can anyone recommend someone who just tells it like it is and gets the job done well? I live in Alexandria. Thanks. |
| For what it's worth, you may want to think twice before you move on from Dr. Sacks. He is really great with endo issues, which I had. I know what you mean about his quirky personality, but he knows his stuff. He is really nice and will tell you like it is if you press him. I ended up really appreciating his upbeatness. Sometimes when things aren't going well you want a doc like him who has a good bedside manner because this stuff can be very emotionally draining. But bottom line though is go with the best doc for you. |
| I like Molina Dayal at GWU. I don't know if she is particularly good with endo issues, but I see her and I have stage 2 endo. What I like about her is how clearly she explains things. I also feel like she really listens to our concerns and doesn't just dismiss things. |
| I'm still trying to settle on an RE as well. I sort of had the same reaction to Sacks -- really nice guy, but seems over the top. I am debating Dominion -- haven't seen anyone there yet, though. |
| Thanks for the recs. I am not opposed to going back to Sacks if I don't find anything else, but I do want to explore other options. I will look into Molina Dayal, she sounds great. |
I could not agree more about Dr. Dayal. She is very straight forward, logical and explains everything clearly. I highly recommend her but I did not have endo issues. Good luck. |
| OP - something you should be aware of is that GW rotates who does monitoring. Sometimes it will be Dayal, sometimes Frankfurter or Gindoff. They always consult as a team about each of their patients so they are familiar with all the cases. But you can always call your primary RE if you have any questions, or do an office consultation with him/her. |
| And that is exactly why I left that office... I need my RE to be "MY RE" for monitoring AND procedures... |
