My son had this surgery done by Dr Gibbons (from Childrens) when he was ~18 months old. I was VERY nervous leading up to the surgery, but he did great! It was a very fast procedure - we went to the cafeteria right after they administered his anesthesia, and they were done and in recovery before we were done eating! Post-op was relatively easy as well. He had to rest for two days, and after that he resumed his normal activities. We gave him otc pain meds, but he didn't seem to be in very much pain at all. Your son will be fine!

My son had to have this done as a baby--he had a testicular torsion in utero and one testicle died. Orchiopexy was recommended for his healthy testicle to prevent it from ever twisting. We had it done at JHH with Dr. Gerhart. His procedure may have been a little more complicated because they also removed the damaged testicle during the same procedure. He was given codeine for pain afterwards and had steristrips which fell off after a few days. He did great and I'm sure your son will too!
If you don't mind me asking--did your son also have a torsion at some time? I had never heard of this procedure being done for any other reason.
Best of luck to you.

Thank you PPs. It'll be done by Dr Gibbons, too! I feel better already!

The drs didn't mention torsion, just that one of his testicle doesn't appear to stay in the scrotum where it should be.

15:42 poster here. My son did not have torsion either - just an undescended testicle.
