Teacher Crossing a Line: is there a formal complaint process?

Anonymous
A teacher did something that I feel crossed a line and I would like to make a formal complaint about it -- has anyone done this? What is the process? Was it worth it?

If you don't feel you can/should send the teacher a note, then why not send the principal a note?

Actually, I've done all that and I happy (so far) with the informal result, but I have no idea whether this has been noted in the teacher's file and I would to know that it has been or do something to make sure that it will be.

If you've alerted the principal, then its out of your hands. Whether or not a note is made in the teacher's personnel file is not really up to you. If the teacher violated a school policy, then the administration will handle it.

With you personally or was this something that happened to your child?

I hope you have enough evidence to back yourself up, or you'll look like a fool backed into a corner.

You can send a followup letter to the school principal, reiterating your concern, thanking him or her for listening to you, summarizing your understanding of steps he or she said would be taken... not sure exactly what you'd write -- and then CC it to your principal's boss -- the Area or Region or Pyramid Assistant Superintendant, usually.

Just an aside, because I obviously have no idea how seriously a teacher crossed the line here. But some advice to parents--be careful about how/when you complain. It is easy to get a reputation as a PITA parent, and that can have repercussions for your kids.
