| Has anyone had a bad experience with an Ebay purchase? I am considering a well known, high end brand purchase but am afraid of getting duped. Not sure what recourse I have once I've paid...if I have an issue. |
| If it's too good to be true, it's probably fake. Check what their return policy is. I bought a DVF dress that ended up being a fake and was able to return it. |
| Educate yourself. You need to know the hallmarks of the brand and make the seller send you photos of what you need to see. |

I heard about an ebay scam where a seller sold some low end electronics (think flash drives), got great feedback, then switched to lap tops, and disappeared with the cash.
So the designer equivalent could be selling a lot of panty hose, then advertising high end dresses? |

1. Hallmarks of the brand: new with tags, plus distinguishing marks inside, in the lining etc... Demand pictures and preserve all email correspondence.
2. Feedback and previous sales: Feedback must be at the very least 99.0% and previous sales must be of similar items. 3. Pay with Paypal, you get additional protection: If problems arise, eBay has long had a policy that protects the buyer, especially if you pay with Paypal. Go to dispute resolution, and follow the instructions. The most important thing is to adhere to the deadlines for filing a claim, etc. Provide all email correspondence to show you were looking for the genuine article and the seller misled you. 4. If dispeased, do not hesitate in threatening to give negative feedback - that will give you customer service fast! |
| One word. "Regretsy." |
| Feedback can be manipulated. Sellers change names all the time after disappearing. I would never buy a high-end item unless they will also provide the registration that comes with it. |
| I saw some super cheap Longchamp bags being sold from China that looked too good to be true. I once bought a Betsey Johnson dress from a Chinese seller and it arrived and was perfect. I suppose it could have been a REALLY accurate fake but at least they didn't just run off with the money. |

If it is truly a real item and not a fake, the seller will almost always post pictures of the tag/receipt/identification number (?) I forget what it's called, but the number that lets you know that a designer purse is legitimate, for example.
Also, don't think a low starting price automatically equals fake, especially if it still has 6 or so days left. It's in the last day or two that the designer stuff normally gets bid on rapidly. |
I bought like 5 "Longchamp" bags in Turkey last year for a total of about $60. They had tags and everything. When I got them home the only difference I could see between the Turkish ones and the one I bought at Nordstrom 10 years ago was that the leather flap was a bit stiffer on the new ones. My grandma and aunts in my hometown were thrilled to death with their Turkish bags. |
| Please do not be tempted by counterfeit merchandise. Understand that this stuff is usually made by children working in horrific conditions, or by the mob and drug trafficers, not to mention by terrorists who funnel the money for buying weapons. |
| You can find some great bargains on ebay of real merchandise. Just be sure to do your research and make sure you know what you are really getting. |
| If it's NWT it's probably fake. I got a diaper bag for about 1/2 the normal retail price. When I got it and compared it to my other purses of that brand that I know are real it was definitely a fake. I was able to return it to the seller and get my money back. She reposted it under a different seller name. I won't buy anything designer on eBay anymore. |

If it's a bag, consider having it authenticated at the Purse Forum: http://forum.purseblog.com/
There's nothing official about it, but these people are bag fanatics and seem to know their stuff. |
