I'm getting my first pair of progressive lenses by Thursday. The guy at the optical place said it would probably take me 3 or so days to get used to them. Is that true? I'm using my current frames which are small (I was told that it's easier to get used to progressives with smaller frames at first).
Totally depends on the person, but yes, it can take a few days to get used to it. I used to work for an optometrist and some people adjusted really quickly, and others took a few days to a week. Since there's no line like bifocals, your brain has to figure out which part of the lens to tell your eyes to look through depending on how far away (or close) something is. Be especially careful going down the stairs the first few times until you figure out where you need to look.
OP again. I wonder how many people fall and break feet/legs/ankles learning where to look to go down stairs? I'm actually looking forward to being able to see clearly once again. I already got a pair of CVS reading glasses to wear with my contacts (I'm only starting with +1 right now). So far tonight I could read labels when making dinner (a huge plus). Here's to attempting to age gracefully.
Just give yourself a little time at first--maybe hold onto railings 'til you're used to them. :0) I love mine!
I know it's tough transition but no need to exaggerate. I've been wearing glasses for over 30 years now and every time I have to change my lenses power it takes a few days to get used to it. I just tried a different kind of contacts a few weeks ago and I was miserable with the blurriness but I survived until my order arrived. You'll be fine OP! |
