I have the choice between Holy Cross and Washington Hospital Center.
Which would you choose? |
Never been to Holy Cross but hated WHC. |
I don't know Holy Cross and haven't experience WHC for maternity care. But had non-gyn surgery there four years ago and had all sorts of problems, including when they released me too early when I was super-nauseous. The admin side was also awful and I had issues with them filling out the wrong stuff from insurance. I would stay away from WHC. |
Ditto PP. Had similar issues during OB visits there and ended up switching. |
I actually had a pretty good experience when I delivered at WHC, but I delivered with midwives, which I think made a difference. I think the care provider matters more from the location since I've heard both praise and horror stories from friends who have delivered at most area hospitals. Most people I know have had pretty good deliveries and then issues with the post-partum nurses no matter where they were. |
Hi, you probably have Kaiser ![]() I delivered at WHC and had no problems at all. I thought the nurses there were great. I was induced and I totally credit the nurses there with adjusting my pitocin so baby wasn't in distress, but I was able to progress and not have a c-section. The delivery rooms are really nice, but the rooms you stay in after you deliver aren't so great. I don't know much about Holy Cross. If you do have Kaiser and you're in delivery for more than a few hours, you will see different Drs as they come on/off shift and you will have no idea who will deliver your baby, but you'll have a consistent nurse or 2 who is checking on you more often. When I delivered Kaiser sent a lactation consultant through the day after delivery as well. |
If you think the delivery rooms at WHC are nice, then you haven't seen some of the other area hospitals...WHC is dump compared to other places. |
I loved my delivery at Holy Cross 10.08 and am planning my next one there this May. Beautiful rooms, had a great nursing staff, etc. |
have never delivered at either but WHC was my back-up in case of transfer from a home birth. Everyone who delivered with the midwifes there gives me rave reviews - said they are really good.
They also have a NICU and pediatric emergency room there, and I was told it's a good place to be if your child has unexpected complications. |
Holy Cross has a great III-B NICU that we used after an out-of-hospital birth. |
Ha! True, I didn't visit others as I only had the choice between WHC & Holy Cross. WHC was much more convenient and I'd heard horror stories about being stuck in rush hour traffic during labor, so it was an easy choice. I will add, I had a friend deliver a preemie with a lot of complications at WHC and it was an easy transfer to Children's next door once the baby was stable enough. |
This was the case with me but at Washington Adventist. Anyone know why this is so common? Very strange. |
If you deliver at Holy Cross, make sure the pediatrician you choose has privileges there. The on-site pediatric staff there was terrible in our experience. We switched to Sibley for our second baby. |
Loved Holy Cross. Huge maternity rooms. IT is a bit of a baby factory, but they know what they are doing. |
OP here. Thanks everyone. I like the idea of Childrens next to WHC, but I think we are going to go with Holy Cross. |
