So Boca Raton is full of people with tons of $ and were carrying pretty nice beach bags making my LL Bean "classic" canvas bag look like the poor(ere) people we are..
But besides that- my beef with the LL Bean bag is that it's cloth and it's not practical for the beach (boating- if we did it- yes). The cloth gets wet, sand sticks- I want a new beach bag that is cute and practical.. any ideas? thanks so much.. |
| Periwinkle on Livingston St. NW has some cute bags. |
| I just take an old Longchamp tote. Practically indestructible, and it holds a ton. |
| Look at Scout bags. From what I can tell they are locally owned. |
I'm laughing WITH you, not at you because of your comments! We stay at a friend's condo in Ponte Vedra each year, and I told my husband last year that I felt a bit silly with my monogrammed LL Bean canvas tote!

This isn't the most stylish bag ever, but the colors are fun and it's reasonably cute. However, it's seriously the best beach bag in the world. It has tons of pockets to store stuff separately (rather than digging through the bag), it's nylon, so sand and water (and spilled sunblock) or no problem (and with all of the pockets, you don't have to worry about the sunblock getting on your towel, or you water bottle sweating on your book). And it has a zipper top, so if you want to close it up you can. It also has a little zippered pouch attached on the interior, which is nice for ID, cash, etc.
Oh, and it's $20-$30. Bonus. http://www.llbean.com/llb/shop/49542?feat=677-GN1 |
| I bought a beach bag at Crate and Barrell several years ago that still works really well. It is huge so I can fit 4 towels in it and it has 4 outer pockets for sunscreen and stuff. |
OP here- mine's monogrammed too- might as well have been monogrammed NOT FILTHY RICH..
|
| OP here- thanks to PP who suggested the LL Bean bag- it's going to work really well! The material is water proof and it'll hold a lot- I am glad that it has pockets etc. they ell out fast in XL! I had to go to the store and lucked out they had it in stock (online they only sell mediums).. |
Great -- I'm glad you like it! And yeah, I've had a hard time finding them online at times -- they sell out very fast. They also only sell them seasonally, so if you want one for a winter vacation, you're generally out of luck. |
| I'm laughing OP because I'm from Boca (live here now) and I think the mono'd LL Bean bags are just fine there and see them all the time at the kids parks, etc. Probably not the best bag specifically for the beach anyhow, but people with small kids use them for a lot of other kids activities. |

OP here- we were staying at the Boca Raton Beach Club... it would explain no LL Bean bags there..
i ended up getting the nylon bag from bean.. the canvas gets wet and sand is harder to remove.. |
I'm the poster who mentioned Ponte Vedra. Yes, I can totally relate! It's when we were walking through the Ponte Vedra Inn and Club to their pool that I realized I wasn't exactly on the cutting edge of fashion--not that it really matters! :0) |
Are you kidding me with this post? I am from Boca (live here now) and my parents belong to the club (there is membership and it's not only a hotel). I have walked around there with my tote from, (gasp) TJ Maxx and guess what, no one threw me out or even gave a crap. Your own insecurity about your LL Bean bag is in your head! However if you decide to go next year I will leave word at the front desk to only let you in if you are carrying a Louis Vuitton beach bag. If this is what you took away from a beautiful vacation then you either need to get a grip or maybe a life. |
OP here- yea, I can tell you;re from Boca! If you bothered to read my post- I was asking for a practical bag since my cloth LL bean doesn't fare well with sand and water!! Get a grip! The "replacement bag" is another LL Bean bag but in nylon! No plans to go back and glad you moved- how about going to a forum where you live? |
