Schools and Education General Discussion
|
We can't decide if we should move this year or next. One of the major cons against waiting one more year to move is that our child will be entering the new school at first grade rather than k-garten. How big of a deal is this for him in terms of transition/academics? We are very focused on his education, but not sure we are ready to move yet (psychologically). I just don't know how much weight to place on this. |

Would your child be moving to a new school for kindergarten and then the other new school for 1st? Or continuing for kindergarten at a school he attends already? If the latter, I wouldn't worry too much. But if you by moving now you can avoid a second transition, it might be worth it.
We moved before kindergarten and have liked the continuity, but that was after a few years of other moves and changes, so we were feeling ready to be settled in. In other circumstances, I don't think a move for first grade would have been that big of a deal. After all, the kindergarten classes are shuffled around for 1st grade anyway. (My child and 4-5 kindergarten classmates were together in 1st grade--the rest were in the other classes.) |
| we're trying to decide on a move this year, too. We'd prefer to be somewhere by K and be done with it. Be part of the community, you know? But I think kids are pretty resilient at that age, and a move at any point will be fine. It is likely more traumatic for the parents than the kid. |
